How many days a week should you exercise?

Three, five or only at the weekend: what studies say about how many days to train, and why the total matters more than how you split it.

What is recommended

The WHO guidelines ask adults for 150 to 300 minutes of moderate activity a week and strength work on at least two days. They do not say how many days: the total is what matters.

Packing it in works too

A study of about 63,000 people compared those who spread their activity across the week with those who packed it into one or two sessions. Both groups had a clearly lower risk of death than inactive people, and similar to each other.

So, how many?

As many as you can keep up. To start, two or three. To build muscle or endurance, three or four. More than five only makes sense if you are already consistent and alternate easy days.

Leave days off

Your body improves while it rests. Between two strength sessions for the same area, leave a day. In Welfitlab, days off are part of the plan, and your daily steps keep you moving between sessions.
