Stage 2 of 3

Then, strength.

With the habit running, it is time to add what protects your body most in the long run, and what the fewest people do: strength work.

Person doing a simple strength exercise at home: squat, bands or dumbbells

Why strength

A review of studies published in 2022 linked strength training to a 10 to 17% lower risk of death, cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes. It is a benefit of its own, on top of walking or running.

Muscle is also lost with age if it is not used. Keeping it is what lets you keep climbing stairs, carrying weight and getting up off the floor thirty years from now.

How much you need

Less than it seems. The 2026 guidelines from the American College of Sports Medicine stress that the biggest jump is going from nothing to something, and consistency before the perfect plan.

In Welfitlab it is one or two days a week. If your goal is four days or more, or if you are 60 or older, we ask for two.

How you see it in Welfitlab

When you log a strength day, you tap the areas you worked on a body figure. Over time the figure fills in, and you can see at a glance what you have not touched in weeks.

The weekly balance tells you whether you already have your strength days or whether that is what your week is missing.

No gym needed

Strength does not mean weights. Squats, push-ups, a resistance band or carrying a load uphill count just the same. What matters is that the muscle works against a resistance that challenges it.
